’Mester i overspringshandlinger’

Måske kan du genkende dig selv, når jeg skriver ’mester i overspringshandlinger’. Det er i hvert fald en kunst, jeg vil tilskrive mig selv. Faktisk er jeg lige nu i gang med en overspringshandling, nemlig at skrive et blog-indlæg om det, frem at tage fat på de arbejdsopgaver, som ligger og venter på mig, og som jeg igen får lagt lidt til side, for at gøre plads til noget andet. Jeg lader mig helt enkelt forstyrre af andre ting og gøremål.

  

Hvad er det, der gør, at vi springer til overspringshandlinger, frem for bare at kaste os ud i det, vi har sat os for at gøre eller som vi har til opgave at udføre? Og hvad er en overspringshandling egentlig, er der måske også nogen, som spørger sig selv? Indenfor etologien betyder overspringshandling en tilsyneladende irrelevant handling, jfr. Wikipedia, som et dyr foretager, når dets instinkter giver det selvmodsigende beskeder, så flere uforenelige adfærdselementer stimuleres samtidig. Eksempelvis kan et dyr, der er i kamp motiveres til både aggression og flugt. Et sådant dyr kan pludselig begynde at pudse sin pels, tørre sit næb af mod en gren, eller udvise seksualadfærd. Som regel vil overspringshandlingen være ganske kortvarig, da den ydre situation vil stille krav, i eksemplet vil modstanderen udnytte chancen og enten stikke af eller fortsætte kampen.  Overført til os mennesker betyder det, at vi ofte lader os forstyrre af andre gøremål midt i, eller inden vi skal påbegynde det, som vi gerne vil være fri for at foretage os, fordi der indeni os er modstridende følelser, vi vil gerne, og samtidig vil vi ikke.

 

For mig hænger overspringshandlinger oftest sammen med gøremål, som jeg finder ubehagelige. Det er ofte handlinger, jeg skal udføre, og som jeg er utryg ved, og som jeg derfor udskyder i det uendelige (hvis ellers jeg kan) eller til det ikke længere kan udskydes. Det kan også være handlinger, som jeg finder umådelig uinteressante eller kedelige, men det kan også skyldes, at der er frygt, ja endda angst, forbundet med den handling, som jeg hele tiden skubber foran mig. Jeg tyer helt enkelt til overspringshandlinger, når jeg bevæger mig udenfor min comfort zone, når jeg føler mig utryg og utilpas i den handling, jeg skal udføre, og når der følger frygt og angst med i købet, ja i værste fald risikoen for afvisning. I sådanne tilfælde kan jeg blive ved med at finde på andre gøremål, som jeg liiiige er nødt til at klare, inden jeg går i gang med den handling, jeg ellers har sat mig for at udføre.

 

Nogle mennesker er bedre til at overkomme sådanne situationer, end andre. Ofte er det forbundet med den oplevelse vi får, når vi så endelig tør hoppe ud i det nye. Bliver bare en enkelt oplevelse positiv, så bliver det nemmere at overkomme næste gang, og vi tør på ny kaste os ud i en ny handling, som vi finder ubehag eller utryghed ved. Bliver oplevelsen derimod knap så positivt, så er det den erfaring som lagrer sig i vores krop og sind, og det bliver derfor sværere at overkomme nye forsøg på ny handling næste gang, vi sætter os det for.

 

Tyr vi til overspringshandlinger fordi de opgaver, vi skal løse er kedelige og uinteressante, så beror det ikke på, at vi føler os usikre eller utrygge, men der er simpelthen bare noget, som er mere sjovt. Det gælder for mange af os alt det som vedrører husligt arbejde, rengøring, tøjvask, strygning, madlavning, handle ind, oprydning mv. Måske du kender til, at du også nemt kan komme på andre og mere spændende tanker, når disse opgaver står for døren. Oftest viser det sig dog, at når vi så har udført disse opgaver, så kommer vi til at føle os godt tilpas, vi bliver tilfredse, ja måske endda lidt stolte af os selv, og vi kan ånde lettet op, og belønne os selv med gode og givende handlinger bagefter.

 

Det samme gør sig faktisk gældende for de handlinger, som vi bevist og ubevist prøver at undgå eller udskyde, fordi de er forbundet med usikkerhed, utryghed og frygt. Når vi så endelig får gjort noget ved dem, og kan sætte et hak udfor aktiviteten, så sker der noget med vores selvagtelse og selvværd. Det kan godt være, at vi ikke lykkedes, så godt som vi havde håbet på, men vi gjorde det, vi brød med vores comfort zone, vi vovede at gøre noget, som vi ikke plejer at gøre, og som ikke er rutine for os, og vi kan mærke stolthed over os selv, selvtilfredshed, og vi føler os måske lidt lettere indeni, end før.

 

Så en overspringshandling handler også om, at vi gør os selv parate til at kaste os ud i noget, som er uprøvet, utrygt og frygtsomt for os. Alle de andre handlinger, vi kommer til at fylde tiden ud med, har sit formål, de er med til at gøre os klar. Slå derfor ikke dig selv eller andre i hovedet, når de tyr til overspringshandlinger, vis i stedet tålmodighed, spørg dig selv, eller den du iagttager, hvad det er, som er så svært ved den givne handling, at den må udskydes, og spørg dig selv, hvad der skal til, for at overkomme de forhindringer, du får sat op indeni dig. Vis barmhjertelig og tålmodighed med dig selv, og du er godt på vej.
